Laars Heating Systems of Rochester NH is one of the oldest American manufacturers of gas fired copper fin tube equipment, with much of the newest technology, packaging, and application-flexible models available on the market today. Recently acquired by the Bradford White Company, Laars has the backing and corporate directive to be the Leader in its field. Representing the commercial line for Connecticut, Western Mass, and Vermont, Mechanical Marketing offers Laars space heating equipment, volume water heating equipment, and commercial pool heating equipment for the commercial and light industrial marketplace. Their line includes natural and propane gas models, indoor and outdoor models, and equipment from 175 mbh input to 5000 mbh. The line contains conventional ANSI Class I natural draft equipment, fan-assisted Class I and III equipment, and condensing Category IV series. Regardless of the space heating or volume water heating application, Laars has a product that not only fits, but excels.
Pennant
The Pennant series covers the input range in 10 sizes from 200 to 20000 mbh input, all with internal staged inputs and a fan-assisted combustion system. The Pennant delivers 85% efficiency throughout the entire series. The Pennant is provided as a complete assembly with internal draft fan(s), redundant hot surface ignitions, and sealed combustion air inlet opening into the functional jacket. The Pennant has great venting flexibility. It can be vented into a typical natural draft Class I Type 'B' Vent or masonry chimney, or as a Class III Fan Assisted Direct Vent Appliance with no changes needed. The units are CSA/AGA approved with both venting categories. In the Class III application, 316 stainless steel venting must be used. The Pennant can draw combustion air from the boiler room ambient if the standard sized sidewall louvers are in place. CSA approved for 100% sealed combustion, air can be ducted to the unit directly from outdoors in a sealed combustion arrangement. Laars provides both the exhaust venting system and inlet air adapter as accessories when desired.
The Pennant incorporates a solid state Boiler Temperature Controller (BTC), which is a digital pre-programmed operating controller with a full LCD display for user interface. The BTC has 6 selectable Modes of Operation to match your application heating or volume water heater needs. The controller sequences all functions of the boilers components, and modulates the input based on unit size. The number of stages by input are:
- 200, 300, 400, 500, & 750 mbh Input - 2 Stages
- 1000 & 1250 mbh Input - 3 Stages
- 1500, 1750, & 2000 mbh Input - 4 Stages
The BTC control brings a level of technology to the Pennant that elevates operation from the rough, rudimentary (conventional aquastats) to precision temperature detection and load-based input staging. The Pennant incorporates both fuel and air input volume control to match and deliver constant thermal efficiency throughout its range. When used as an individual unit, the BTC can be selected for:
- Constant Discharge Temperature
- Indoor/Outdoor Reset
- 4-20 mA Direct Drive 4-20 mA Remote Setpoint
- External Control Subjugation
In addition to standard setpoint, I/O Reset schedules and WWSD, the BTC also incorporates minimum Supply temperature to keep the Pennant running in a Non-condensing mode at all times.
Neotherm
The Neotherm series is a gas fired condensing boiler, with inputs from 85 to 400 mbh in both natural and propane gases. The boiler delivers thermal efficiencies of 85 to 97% depending upon return water temperatures and percentage of input firing. The Neotherm is very well suited for today‘s low SWT systems.
The heat exchanger of the Neotherm is stainless steel from entry to exit. With a condensate drain, the Neotherm can operate in the condensing mode for many years with little to no effect from the slightly acidic condition of fossil fuel condensation.
Rheos
The name Rheos means 'New Beginning'. This series of units from 1200 mbh input to 2400 mbh input starts a new capability in the upper end commercial market. The Rheos is a category IV positive pressure device with internal fan assist to discharge exhaust gases. With a vertical heat exchanger, it has a very small footprint, and is most often employed in a multiple boiler or volume water heating application. The unit incorporates a seamless modulation system, which can vary the input from 100% to 50% with a matching air/fuel modulation. The Rheos uses a variable frequency device to vary the internal fan. The zero point gas valve and special gas train allows the input range to vary from minimum to maximum without any change in efficiency in operation. The Rheos is available in input sizes of 1200, 1600, 2000, & 2400 mbh.
Storage Tanks
Laars has the manufacturing capability to supply from 40 to 5000 storage tanks for use with any of its fired products. Normally used in hot water situations, the tanks can be customized with fittings, manholes, coils, heat bundles, or almost any configuration called for by the application. Please call us with your questions on storage tanks. If it can be done, Laars is already doing it!
